Our History
Tameside South Scout District was formed in 2009 when Denton District and Hyde District merged together. At the merger, Tameside South comprised of 11 Groups and 3 Explorer Scout Units spread across Denton, Hyde, Audenshaw, Haughton Green and Newton.

Denton District
Scouting in Denton took the form of a collection of scout groups meeting in the area under the watchful eye of Ashton Association (or District). The earliest recorded meeting being in 1908 at what was to become 1st Denton. In 1941 Denton decided to break away from Ashton and became an Association (District) in its own right. From these humble beginings of 4 groups, the District grew in size as the popularity of scouting took hold. At its peak in the 1970's the district had 9 groups. Over the years as scouting changed and apapted to the changes in society, groups were still forced to close due to the lack of adult volunteers to run the sections and at the merger in 2009, Denton District had 6 groups and provided scouting for over 200 young people.
